Intralase Lasik Surgery

In addition many practitioners say that they can achieve better vision with IntraLase laser eye surgery. A reported disadvantage to this new IntraLase laser technology is that surgical time is increased, leaving the stroma exposed several minutes longer, which has led to reported complaints of photophobia and eye irritation for up to two days after surgery.

After the second day of using the IntraLase Method is uniquely able to lock back into place and your eye then begins to heal within minutes.NASA will now accept candidates that previously failed the vision requirement if they undergone a Lasik procedure, or more presicley, the bladeless all laser lasik performed by Delarusso in New York and New Jersey. This kind of laser used is often know as IntraLase Lasik, after the first laser invented for the purpose of cutting the flap in the cornea. IntraLase continues to make impressive worldwide gains in both sales and procedure volume as surgeons convert to the all-laser LASIK platform as the standard form of future lasik eye surgery.

How much does IntraLase Lasik Surgery Cost

Ophthalmologists are the eye surgeons with medical degrees who perform the allLasik laser eye surgery. The beam of laser light is focused to a precise point within the central layer of the cornea where a string of microscopic bubbles is formed.

Beyond improving the safety of the procedure, LASIK with the advanced IntraLase Method is clinically proven to deliver better visual outcomes in both standard and Custom LASIK procedures with more patients achieving visual acuity of 20/20, 20/15 and even 20/12. Because shaping the flap with a laser does not involve the use of a blade, LASIK performed with this method is sometimes termed bladeless LASIK or all-laser LASIK.

NASA will now accept candidates that previously failed the vision requirement if they undergone a Lasik procedure, or more presicley, the bladeless all laser lasik and has been the intralase lasik pioneer over the past five and a half years. IntraLase designs, develops and manufactures an ultra-fast laser, related software and disposable devices used.

The innovator of the all-laser bladeless lasik Dr. Delarusso performs all-laser surgery on a daily basis in his Manhattan office in New York.

The Current State of Lasik

Recently US News and World Report had published an article about the current state of Lasik: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/health/articles/070225/5laser.htm Featured in the article is Dr. James Salz who along with Dr. Joseph Delarusso were selected by the FDA in 1990 to head the research into the clinical trials of the first laser to be considered in reshaping the cornea so as to rid people of glasses. Known as PRK and Lasik today. The article is kind to those surgeons who still use blade (microkeratme) instead of the Intralase no-blade lasik. In the real professional world of Lasik surgeons it is understood that the laser surpasses the blade. Dr. Delarusso expects that the blade will eventually be discarded as these surgeons move up to Intralase bladeless lasik in the near future. The main obstacle to Intralase among the remaining blade surgeons is the noteworthy extra costs to the surgeon. Read more about Dr. Delarusso.

CONTACT LENS WEARERS NOT CARING FOR THEIR CONTACTS

As recently reported in the journal of Ophthalmology Management, a recent study conducted by The Contact Lens Council indicated that 11 million of the 35 million contact wearers do not take proper care of their contact lenses.

Recent alerts by the FDA warning of loss of sight by one of 2000 lens wearers seem to substantiate the results of the CLC study. Additional council results may be found at www.mycontactlens.org

Editors’s note: It has been known that some percentage of people abuse the use of contacts, feeling there is no danger at all: “I’ve been sleeping with my contacts for years and never had a problem”. This quote is familiar to all eye doctors when caring for a patient who has finally developed a severe infection from using contact lenses incorrectly.

LASIK when pregnant or sick

According to a news article in Primary Care Optometry News, people with certain health conditions, such as Arthritis, Chron’s disease and Diabetes, even pregnant and and breast feeding women, may be good candidates for Lasik.

This is news to me, since the FDA have not approved LASIK surgery for people with those kind of diseases.

But then I saw the following statement by the top notch lasik eye surgeon Dr. Delarusso. He knows what he is talking about, so I guess it should be safe for all pregnant women out there waiting for their lasik surgery to go on and correct their vision.

Dr. Delaruss explains: The systemic or general body diseases noted in this review are not approved by the FDA for lasik surgery, not because they have been proven to be harmful. On the contrary - the laser manufacturers simply have not performed studies with their lasers on people with these general diseases, so the FDA does not know what would be the results of performing Lasik in patients with these groups of diseases. Therefore people who suffer from these maladies are not approved since they were never tested by the laser companies.

Introducing The New Eye-Q Lasik

Today the media went to an event held at the Dello Russo Laser Vision Center in Manhattan, New York, where the famous lasik eye surgeons Doctor Joseph Delarusso and Doctor Jeffrey Delarusso introduced the most advanced eye laser available. Made by Swiss laser maker Alcon, which is said to take the concept of Custom-corneas to a new level.

Since Dr. Joseph Dellarusso introduced laser eye surgery, or LASIK, to the nation in the 90's, he has been seen as the leader in the lasik eye surgery revolution. Dr. Delarusso is the surgeon who have been leading the implementation of procedures such as Down-Up Lasik, Flying-Spot Lasik, Tracking, and in recent years the No-blade lasik.

And now Dr. Joseph Delarusso does it again, with the said Custom-Cornea by Alcon.

Alcon Inc. has chosen the two Delarusso doctors to introduce their newest eye laser called tje the Eye-Q. The name is meant to make us think about the thinking man’s laser.

Alcon believes that it is currently the most advanced laser in the market. Although lasik eye surgery is said to be quite safe, the EYE-Q is even more precise than the other lasik eye surgery lasers on the market, since it only performs customized lasik. This specialization of the laser reducing and improving some common lasik side effects.

Every patient receives a unique treatment that is custom made to fit his eye structure so that each and every person gets the best vision he can hope for. No two lasik surgery treatments will likely be the same, explains Dr. Delarusso.

Patient comfort has been enhanced by the speed of this new tracking flying-spot laser. The average treatment takes about 10 seconds, allowing a more comfortable laser experience.

Dr. Dellarusso says that the no-blade laser takes merely 20 seconds to make a flap. Because of the great speed of the two lasik lasers there is no need for eye drops, which makes the overall lasik procedure last only a few minutes for each eye.

Dr. Delarusso stated that just when you think lasik can’t get any better, the new Eye-Q laser comes and takes us beyond Custom-cornea lasik.

LASIK going to the moon

Dr. Joseph Delarusso said in an interview that for the first time NASA has approved the advanced all-laser Lasik surgery to improve the vision of its astronaut candidates. Many of them previously failed the tests because of bad eye sight.

Dr. Delarusso is the man who gave us the all-laser Lasik in his New York City office in 2002. The all-laser lasik is considered to be a safer and the more precise lasik, a fact that makes NASA to accept candidates that failed the vision requirement if they undergone a Lasik procedure.

However, the procedure must be bladeless lasik, that is lasik performed without cutting the cornea. Bladeless lasik is also known as Intralase Lasik or all-laser Lasik.

NASA is following the lead by other branches of the US military which determined that all-laser lasik is safe for the military.

The extreme zero-gravity conditions of NASA pilots make even wearing contact lenses intolerable. More astronaut candidates with vision problems will now qualify, as long as they undergo the all laser bladeless lasik surgery.

The decision by the military and NASA reflect how safe this type of lasik is now considered, which was reported by Dr. Delarusso already several months ago, when he said that Lasik surpasses in safety even the wearing of contact lenses.”

Lasik is the most popular self-improvement surgery in the world at the moment. Until introduced by Dr. Delarusso in 2002, the procedure was performed with the use of a blade, or a microkeratome, which was sometimes associated with complications.

The intralase all-laser lasik is now the standard of care, says Dr. Delarusso, the man who gave bladeless lasik to the world.

LASIK a new Cure for Reading Glasses?

Joseph Delarusso, one of USA's most prominent LASIK eye surgeons says that as certain as death is the need for wearing reading glasses after you turn forty. This is the result of the eye condition called Presbyopia.

Dr. Delarusso has formed a team of eye vision researchers who have developed some of the most important advances in LASIK eye surgery since the introductin of the vision surgery many years ago. They are now hard at work with what may be a most promising treatment for Presbyopia using a simple procedure that resembles LASIK to restore reading ability.

Restoring reading after the age of forty is the last frontier in laser eye surgeons’ struggle to help people get rid of eyeglasses. I believe the potential is huge, since there are at least 100 million Americans wearing reading glasses who may be willing to have the procedure as long as it is both safe and effective. This could be an even larger market than LASIK encompassing the baby boomers who potentially have more disposable income.”

Delarusso, who was at the forefront during the clinical trials as a former FDA researcher by helping to develop and improve the laser eye surgery procedure now known as LASIK, says that the new treatment of Presbyopia will be designed to restore the eye’s focusing ability, utilizing a special laser technology.

Many of the ophthalmologists, or eye surgeons, who played important roles in the development of LASIK lasers and lasik eye surgery are again involved in this new research.

Delarusso feels that the combined experience and knowledge of this new team of scientists may have the best opportunity of conquering the last frontier in ridding people of glasses.

LASIK is the most popular elective surgical procedure in the world. LASIK treats nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, conditions which interfere with distance vision and which unlike Presbyopia, do not occur in all of the population.

Of those who could benefit from the LASIK procedure, approximately 5% have chosen to undergo the vision surgery since LASIK was introduced. Presbyopia occurs in everyone, so eventually, any person can be a potential customer.

Dr. Delarusso says that there are no guarantees that a new laser technology will work for presbyopia. It will take years to get the new laser approved for surgery. However in 1990, we had no guarantees that laser vision correction (LASIK) would succeed, says Dr Delarusso.

Discount LASIK Hazard

Many Lasik clinics offer long-term warranties that offer additional services or a refund for the popular laser eye surgery, but the controversial practice of money back plans for medical care has raised concerns amongst patient advocacy groups that evaluates patient outcomes and certifies Lasik doctors.

It's admirable for a clinic to provide a high level of commitment to its patients, however the reality is that what constitutes a lifetime and what is covered may be a matter of contention and circumstance. Are we talking about the lifetime of the patient, the doctor, or the corporation that employed the doctor?

A warranty of any kind is only as viable as the people who back it.

In 2001 ICON, a national Lasik eye surgery chain, suddenly filed for bankruptcy and left patients stranded.

Some patients found their warranty was good for a few days before the doors were closed.

The Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance is a nonprofit nongovernmental patient advocacy organization that evaluates and certifies doctors who perform surgery to reduce the need for corrective lenses.

Discount franchise centers have a poor financial history since they frequently go out of business by charging low prices for Lasik. So when you hear of a lifetime guarantee, I often wonder whose life? The doctor’s? The center’s? The patient’s? How good is an offer from a type of centers which historically go out of business quite frequently?

Dr. Delarusso, the famous lasik eye surgeon is asking those questions as well. He also wonders why a person would need a lifetime guarantee.

When Lasik surgery is performed by a good doctor as Dr. Delarusso, there's no need for a guarantee. When the surgery is well done by a good surgeon on a good Lasik candidate, it is permanent. So, what is being guaranteed? Nothing is being offered.
